Dangos Intermediate Course

This half-day session follows on from the basic course or provides a refresher for more experienced staff. It covers:


•      The cost of living and the poverty premium

•      The reality of absolute and relative poverty

•      Debt and the routes out of debt

•      The benefit system and how it’s changing

•      Means-tested benefits

•      Earnings replacement benefits

•      Disability benefits

•      How they fit together

•      Housing Issues

•      Health Issues

•      Social Care issues

•      Groups with special issues

•      Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Immigrants

•      Prisoners

•      Other financial support in Wales

•      Nudging people to take action

•      Working together to achieve more.

The intermediate course can be ‘tweaked’ to put a bit more emphasis on housing, healthcare or social care for in-house courses for in-house sessions

Older People and their Finances

This half-day session covers:

•      Age

•      When are you treated as old and why does it matter

•      State, private and occupational pensions. What are they and when, and how, can you get them

•      Pension freedoms and how to best use them

•      Why what you take isn’t what ends up in your pocket. Tax and benefits impacts.

This half-day session covers:

What’s changed & changing

This half-day session provides a view of what has changed recently and what is changing in the future. It will be a constantly updated view of what’s going on reflecting changes and new pressures as they occur. It’s ideal as a refresher for experienced workers or as an introduction to what’s newly happening in Wales for less experienced workers, alongside the other Dangos sessions.


Don’t forget the existing Dangos sessions are still going strong and provide a great introduction to the kind of problems that people face and the help that is available in Wales, through the basic course. The intermediate course takes things further and is an ideal follow-up.
